In India, state governments provide disability financial assistance (called the disability pension or divyangjan pension). The pension amount given is surprisingly small in most of the states. This is despite the fact that the Union Government of India also provides a share in the total disability pension amount under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS). Let’s take a look at pension amounts given to PwD by various state governments. Disability pension of Rs. 300 per month is provided under IGNDPS for PwD between 18 to 79 years of age. For PwDs 80 years or above, this amount is increased to Rs. 500 per month. State governments usually add to this amount and disburse to the beneficiaries.
The lowest monthly disability pension amounts are given in Assam (Rs. 300), Chhattisgarh (Rs. 350) and Bihar (Rs. 400).
The highest monthly disability pension amounts are provided in Andhra Pradesh (Rs. 3000), Goa (Rs. 25oo to 3500) and Delhi (Rs. 2500).
Often the disability pension is disbursed once every three months.
