Anushka Panda: Topper in Differently-Abled Category in CBSE 10th 2018

Anushka Panda has emerged as the topper in the diferently-abled category of the recently declared CBSE 10th class exam results. A big fan of Mohd. Rafi and Kishore Kumar, Anushka is affected with a genetic disorder called muscular spinal dystrophy. This condition forces her to remain in a wheelchair.

But all these difficulties could not hamper her charge towards the top in the CBSE 2018 results of class 10. She has scored 97.8% overall. Her score in Mathematics and Hindi is 99. In Science and Social Science she bagged 98 marks and 95 in English. She is a student of Suncity School in Gurgaon, Haryana.

And guess what? Anushka Panda is a trained classical singer as well!

This hard working girl wants to become a software engineer. Because of muscular spinal dystrophy — Anushka has to wear a spinal brace. It makes it difficult for her to sit continuously for long hour. As a result she has to take frequent breaks and lie down for sometime. As we can see, such hardship did not deter her at all.

“Anushka never wanted to be treated as a differently-abled,” says Anushka’s father, Mr. Anup Panda.

“She never wanted to use the extra time that was provided to her to finish the exam. She would always finish her exam in two-and-a-half hours. She did not want to be recognised as a special category child and as part of her preparations, she would solve sample papers in two-and-a-half hours,” he said.

“I felt so happy after seeing the results but after I learnt I was a topper, I was literally thrilled. I have been preparing for my board exams from day one and would devote at least half-an-hour every day to each of the subjects,” Anushka told the PTI.

Anushka’s father and mother, both work in MNCs. She wants to celebrate her success by ordering a pizza.

How about future plans?

“I want to get into academics. My love for music is something I would like to keep it to myself,” Anushka said.
