Flat foot is a condition when the entire sole of foot touches the ground while you stand. There are mainly two types of flat foot:
- Rigid flat foot
- Flexible flat foot
While flexible flat foot does not cause much of a problem, rigid flat foot can become a cause of concern. A rigid flat foot can be painful and can hamper your athletic performance. This is the reason why security forces do not employ people with flat foot.
About 20-30% of people have flat foot of varying degree. Flat foot occurs when arch in the sole doesn’t get fully developed. This arch acts as a shock absorbing spring between toes and heel. In its absence, activities like running and jumping could be painful. Flat foot condition can not be cured. However, treatment can mitigate the symptoms.
